RHONDA GAIL HANLEY EDWARDS

It is with a great sense of loss as we remember Rhonda. With Rhonda’s great wealth of knowledge and expertise in genealogy and especially in American Indian Lineage as she was one of three Certified American Indian Lineage Specialist in the world she and her husband Bill did a outstanding job of putting the genealogies and rolls together for the Shasta Indian Nation.

We would like to send our warmest thoughts to Bill and his family for sharing Rhonda with us. May God bless you and be with you.

Indian Teacher Grants

Education programs in seven state---Arizona, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon and South Dakota---have been selected to receive nearly $3.8 million to provide training programs to recruit and graduate new American Indian teachers and school administrators, according to U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.  The University of Oregon will receive $344,950.

"These professional development grants will help us find, train and retain the very best teachers and administrators within American Indian communities," said Duncan.  "These grants represent opportunity, both for teachers and their students."

The grant award is part of the Office or Indian Education's Professional Development program, which trains qualified individuals to become teachers and administrators in Indian communities.
